Your academic credit scores are the launchpad to the future you want. This means they impact your job opportunities overseas, your academic progression and even scholarships. This academic scorecard provides a window into the academic mastery, dedication and achievements of a student, rather than fulfilling just graduation requirements.
At least 170 universities have adopted the National Credit Framework which allows seamless credit transfer between diverse learning systems.
So far, the Academic Bank of Credits has signed up 3.17 crore students, while nearly 80 percent academic institutions have adopted this.
Approximately, 720 million educational credits are housed in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) which is a digitized effort to standardize education.
Credit Scores denote the completion of an online and offline academic program. Their calculation is based on many parameters which include study hours, assignment submission and exams. In India, these scores are managed through the Academic Bank of Credits which has been created under the NEP framework. This body facilitates credit transfer, accumulation and redemption. It’s also an insight into how well you can handle pressure, deadlines and hard subjects.
During a semester, one credit is assigned for every hour of theory, practical work or tutorial per week. This earned credit is stored in a Digi locker via a unique ID created by students under the ABC system. These credits are valid for 7 years and give students to drop or resume their academic journey while allowing institutional transfer also.
When planned in advance, academic transfers can be smooth as there’s a possibility that they may take time. It’s also a good idea to check if the college you’re moving to, allows forwarding of credits. However, there can be other challenges. For example, ensure that there’s no mismatch on the syllabus on both sides, there’s also a possibility that some universities have their own evaluation and grading system.
